Press ReleasesThe President received letters of credence from South Korean ambassadorThursday, June 16, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Joon Jae Lee of the Republic of Korea.
As she welcomed the newly appointed ambassador, the President accentuated the need to develop more dynamic cooperation ties between Lithuania and South Korea. According to the President, people in Lithuania did not have extensive knowledge about South Korea; it was therefore important to strengthen bilateral contacts, especially in cultural and economic areas. Dalia Grybauskaitė noted that a key factor for enhancing relations between the two countries was the Free Trade Agreement signed by South Korea and the European Union. The President said that she planned to visit EXPO 2012 to be held in South Korea next year. Among the other points of discussion were problems related to North Korea. In the course of his diplomatic career, Joon Jae Lee (59) worked at the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, National Assembly, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served in Korean embassies in Japan, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, and Poland. South Korean ambassadors to Lithuania reside in Warsaw.
