The President congratulated the Queen of Denmark on the 40th anniversary of her reign

Friday, January 13, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark on the 40th anniversary of her reign.

"In spring of 1991, your country was among the first to recognize the regained independence of Lithuania and a year later you, Your Majesty, were the first foreign monarch who paid a high-level visit to Lithuania. Lithuania appreciates the continued support by Denmark and you personally and, therefore, I hope that inspired by such experience we will further strengthen the fundamentals of cooperation between our countries, the dialogue based on mutual confidence, while new cooperation initiatives in science, culture and other fields will contribute to bringing our nations ever closer together," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.

The President believes that Denmark will remain a close friend and ally of Lithuania, a committed architect of a united Europe which is based on common values.
