The President congratulated Iceland’s President on Independence Day

Friday, June 17, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent congratulations to President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson of the Republic of Iceland on Iceland's national holiday, the Independence Day.

"Iceland was the first country of the world to recognize Lithuania's re-independence twenty years ago, on 11 February 1991. Your country can be proud of having made this courageous decision, while Lithuania is very proud of having such a reliable friend and ally. Our nations maintain successful cooperation ties within NATO, and I firmly believe that my forthcoming visit to your country in August will further strengthen political, economic and cultural collaboration between Lithuania and Iceland," the President's letter of congratulations reads.
