Press ReleasesPresident receives letters of credence from Greek AmbassadorFriday, February 3, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Michael-Efstratios C. Daratzikis of the Hellenic Republic.
The President and the incoming Ambassador discussed the preparedness of both countries for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the end of 2013, Lithuania will hand over the EU presidency to Greece. According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, Lithuania and Greece should cooperate closely to achieve the goals important for the whole of Europe.
Three successive presidencies by different member states, known as presidency trios, cooperate for an 18-month period. In the period from 1 January 2013 to 30 June 2014 the presidency trio will consist of Ireland, Lithuania and Greece. The President and the Ambassador also addressed the bilateral relations of Lithuania and Greece and the economic situation in Europe.
The 54-year-old diplomat, born in Egypt, earlier served in the diplomatic missions of Greece in Egypt and Ethiopia as well as in the UN missions in Geneva and New York. Press Service of the President |
