President Dalia Grybauskaitė, currently attending the European Council meeting, discussed with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the bilateral relations of Lithuania and Poland – incumbent holder of the EU presidency. The President extended congratulations to Donald Tusk on the victory of his party Civic Platform in the elections to the Polish parliament. Dalia Grybauskaitė and Donald Tusk agreed that further good neighborly relations based on mutual understanding and partnership was a common goal of both countries.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President Pál Schmitt of the Republic of Hungary on the 55th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution. "It was exactly 55 years ago that the Hungarian people stood up in a brave but unequal struggle for their country's freedom and independence. Their fight stands as a twentieth century symbol representing the cause of liberty and democracy as well as a source of inspiration for other nations living in totalitarian oppression," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
