For Lithuania that day was January 13. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with U.S. Senator Richard Durbin. The President underlined at the meeting that the United States was Lithuania’s key partner within NATO and a strategic partner in developing cooperation in the area of security. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė received Speaker of the Latvian Saeima, Solvita Āboltiņa. The President underlined in the meeting that Lithuania and Latvia as Baltic neighbours should cooperate still more closely as they are bound by shared political and economic interests and common priorities within the European Union and NATO. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė wrote a letter to President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, urging them to look for ways to facilitate travelling and visa regime within the Schengen area for Belarusians irrespective of any sanctions that might be imposed by the EU on the Belarusian administration. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis, the new OSCE Chairperson-in-Office as from 1 January, discussed priorities and main concerns for the Lithuanian Chairmanship of this Organization. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Lithuania’s defense attachés to discuss issues related to defense and security in their operational regions as well as military and political cooperation plans and prospects.
