The President underlined in the meeting that energy topped the agenda of bilateral relations between Lithuania and the UAE and that Lithuania was interested in cooperation in the area of developing alternative sources of energy, especially solar energy, and in possibilities to import liquefied gas. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Samad Ali Lakizadeh. In the meeting with the Ambassador, the President said she welcomed Iran's decision to renew negotiations for nuclear programme. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Kuwait, Musaed R. Al-Haroun. The President and the Ambassador talked about cooperation between Lithuania and Kuwait in the energy sector and discussed possibilities for mutual investment. As a response to the address made by representatives of Lithuania’s culture community and civic society concerning the future of Kristijonas Donelaitis museum in Chistye Prudy in the Kaliningrad Oblast, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent a letter to President Dmitry Medvedev of the Russian Federation. President Dalia Grybauskaitė received Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development, who has come to Vilnius to participate in an international conference, “Road to successful transition in Afghanistan”, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in the festive events dedicated to Poland’s Independence Day in Warsaw, on the invitation of President Bronislaw Komorowski of Poland. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė had a working meeting with the Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičová. In the meeting, the President and the Slovak Prime Minister discussed bilateral relations, cooperation within the European Union and NATO, and Lithuania’s preparedness for the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe next year. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė gave a lecture at Columbia University on measures to boost economic recovery and Lithuania’s experience in mitigating effects of the economic crisis. In the lecture, which attracted much interest from students and the academic community of Columbia University, the President underlined that ambitious fiscal consolidation and structural reforms must be implemented, financial sector reform must be sped up, and unemployment and social cohesion challenges must be addressed in order to overcome consequences of the economic crisis. President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with ambassadors of the European Union Member States who reside in Lithuania. In the meeting, the President made a brief presentation of domestic policy issues, the results of the European Council meeting that took place last week in Brussels, the immediate tasks of Lithuania’s foreign policy, Lithuania’s preparedness for the chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and NATO and OSCE summits to be held before the end of the year. |
