President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President Nursultan Nazarbayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the twentieth anniversary of Kazakhstan‘s independence. "Over twenty years of independence, Kazakhstan has established its position in the international community as a responsible, trustworthy and constructive partner. I am very delighted that bilateral relations between our two countries in this period have also been marked by constructive development" the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
 
President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to the newly elected President of the Swiss Confederation, Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, and wished her the best of success in discharging the important and responsible duties of her position.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Republic of India, Monika Kapil Mohta. Welcoming the new ambassador, the President underlined that cultural cooperation between Lithuania and India was already intense and therefore it should be used for enhancing economic relations as well. She said that it was very important to promote bilateral trade and investment projects.

The heads of state or government of EU Member States in the capital of Belgium early Friday morning agreed on more stringent financial discipline and saving measures needed to overcome the debt crisis in the eurozone.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė welcomed the participants of the ESCO round-table discussion "Making Women's Voices Heard" on gender equality and equal opportunities. The experts from the EU's Eastern Partnership, Mediterranean Sea regions and Lithuania have shared their unique experience, success stories, and provided a roadmap for further initiatives in the sphere of gender equality.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė and the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, currently participating in the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting, discussed regional security issues and preparedness for the NATO summit to be held in Chicago next spring. According to the President, NATO's visibility and real presence are highly important as the number of the armed forces and weapons located in the neighborhood of Lithuania and the Baltic States is increasing and intense military training is conducted.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė welcomed the participants of the Ministerial Council meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). According to the President, in the entire course of OSCE chairmanship the resolution of protracted conflicts has been a key priority for Lithuania, therefore it is very important that after five and a half years of inactivity official multilateral negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement were renewed in Vilnius.

Presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, continuing a traditional meeting of the leaders of the Baltic States, discussed the issues of regional security and cooperation in implementing energy and transport projects. After the meeting, the EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas presented to the Presidents the railway project “RailBaltica” intended to connect the Baltic countries, Helsinki and Warsaw.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė, currently attending the meeting of the Baltic Presidents, discussed with President Andris Bērziņš of Latvia the issues of bilateral cooperation, the situation in the eurozone, and the likely impact of the crisis on the economy of the Baltic countries. The leaders of Lithuania and Latvia also talked about the measures intended to enhance the supervision of financial institutions.
