President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė had a meeting with the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lene Espersen, who is attending the high-level conference ‘Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices’ in the Presidential Palace. The discussion in the meeting centered on energy security, Nordic-Baltic cooperation (NB8) and Lithuanian-Danish bilateral relations.

In the conference ‘Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices’ organized on the initiative of President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and President of Finland Tarja Halonen, 130 most prominent and active women from over 40 countries of the world are sharing their experiences and ideas on how to ensure full and safe life for women.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė had a meeting with Mongolia’s President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, whose country is taking over Presidency of the Community of Democracies from Lithuania tomorrow. The Mongolian President is among the participants of the high-level conference ‘Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices’ taking place on the initiative of the Lithuanian President.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė had a meeting with Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Energy Maud Olofsson attending the high-level conference ‘Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices’ in Vilnius. Issues discussed at the bilateral meeting included energy security, building of the NordBalt power bridge between Lithuanian and Sweden, construction of a LNG terminal in Lithuania, and opportunities for closer cooperation within the NB8 framework.

Closing its two-year Presidency of the Community of Democracies, Lithuania is hosting a high-level conference Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices at the Presidential Palace, organized on the initiative of President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė in cooperation with President of Finland Tarja Halonen, the Council of Women World Leaders and the European Institute of Gender Equality. During its Presidency of the Community of Democracies, Lithuania placed special focus on women empowerment. Today Lithuania has become an initiator of global ideas that will help protect women’s and human rights around the globe, the President of Lithuania said opening the Conference.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, David Hunt. Welcoming the new ambassador, the President underlined that both Lithuania and the United Kingdom were interested in close cooperation on the international arena - within the European Union and NATO. The President and the Ambassador also discussed future negotiations on the EU's new multiannual financial perspective for 2014-2020.

Leading women of the world will gather in the Presidential Palace on 30 June for the Conference Women Enhancing Democracy: Best Practices organized on the initiative of President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen. Among the participants of this women's high-level conference hosted in Lithuania for the first time ever will be President of Finland Tarja Halonen, President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva, President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga, President of Mongolia Elbegdorj Tsakhia, Speaker of Albania's Parliament Jozefina Çoba Topalli, Speaker of Latvia's Parliament Solvita Āboltiņa, Slovakia's Prime Minister Iveta Radičová, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also EU, UN and OSCE representatives, members of foreign national parliaments and governments, human and women's rights activists, and NGOs.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated participants and spectators of the final concert of Gaudeamus, the Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival. Addressing the audience, the President underlined the Festival that was launched 55 years ago was a celebration of unity and freedom of Baltic students and a wake-up call for Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian nations for all those years.
