President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom on the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
 
President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President-elect Sauli Niinistö of Finland. "I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Republic of Finland. I wish you success and strength in discharging the important and responsible duties of your position," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Michael-Efstratios C. Daratzikis of the Hellenic Republic. The President and the incoming Ambassador discussed the preparedness of both countries for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the end of 2013, Lithuania will hand over the EU presidency to Greece. According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, Lithuania and Greece should cooperate closely to achieve the goals important for the whole of Europe.

The leaders of the EU member states, currently attending an informal meeting of members of the European Council in the capital of Belgium, approved the Fiscal Compact Treaty designed to obligate the eurozone members to observe stringent fiscal discipline and pursue a responsible economic policy. All of the EU member states, except United Kingdom and Czech Republic, agreed to join the treaty.

Today President Dalia Grybauskaitė participates in an informal meeting of members of the European Council in Brussels. The agenda of the meeting includes the approval of the European fiscal compact treaty and the discussion on measures aimed to promote the economic growth and job creation in Europe. The President said that a new fiscal compact treaty would be in the interest of the whole European Union as it would introduce an obligatory provision that a country's budget should be balanced or surplus.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded US scholar Antony Barry Polonsky with the Cross of Officer of the Order for Merits to Lithuania in recognition of his merits to the Republic of Lithuania and the promotion of the name of Lithuania in the world. Antony Barry Polonsky is professor of history and near eastern studies at Brandeis University and active researcher into the history and problems of Lithuanian-Polish-Jewish.
 
President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to the President of the Republic of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil on the occasion of India’s national holiday – Republic Day.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to discuss cooperation in the Alliance and the development of military security. The President underlined that Lithuania's assignment to the responsible task of chairing NATO's Civilian Intelligence Committee this year demonstrated that Lithuania was contributing in a significant way to NATO and that it was being treated as a reliable, active and equal partner.
