Lithuania set to continue strategic partnership with Ukraine, based on common values

Thursday, February 25, Kyiv - President Dalia Grybauskaitė is currently on a working visit to Kyiv where she is attending the inauguration of Viktor Yanukovych as Ukraine's new president.

"Lithuania and Ukraine are connected by close and long-standing historical, cultural and political bonds. I am therefore confident that the strategic dialogue between Lithuania and Ukraine, based on shared interests and values, will be consistently strengthened and deepened under the leadership of President Viktor Yanukovych," President Grybauskaitė said.

Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania respected the choice made by the citizens of Ukraine and was set to further develop bilateral cooperation, continue working together in the Council of the Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine and to share its euro-integration experience, if Ukraine so wished.

The leader of the Party of Regions, Viktor Yanukovych, was elected President of Ukraine on February 7 in the second election round.
