Lithuania and Slovakia will strengthen their partnership within international organisations

Monday, November 8, New York - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė had a working meeting with the Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičová.

 

In the meeting, the President and the Slovak Prime Minister discussed bilateral relations, cooperation within the European Union and NATO, and Lithuania's preparedness for the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe next year.

 

The President said she and the Slovak Prime Minister also discussed the need for a single European energy market and for better coordination of decisions in the area of energy and in the EU relations with third countries.

 

Asked by the Slovak Prime Minister, the President gave an in-depth description of Lithuania's position in its relations with Russia as well as Lithuania's view about the EU's possibilities to develop cooperation with Belarus.

 

The President invited the Slovak Prime Minister to the high-level meeting of world women leaders to be held by the Community of Democracies in Vilnius next summer.

 

Earlier in the day, the President also gave an exclusive interview for the influential U.S. Forbes publishing group.
