Press ReleasesActive promoters of Lithuania strengthen public confidence in the stateWednesday, July 6, Vilnius - On the occasion of Statehood Day, President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded Lithuanian citizens and foreign nationals with state decorations for their merits to the Republic of Lithuania and promotion of the name of Lithuania in the world.
In her congratulatory speech, President Grybauskaitė emphasized that the awarded persons had contributed in a major way to consolidating the State of Lithuania.
"Your work strengthens Lithuanian statehood and international standing. You promote Lithuania as a creative and talented nation around the world. Your actions and dedication encourage all citizens to take on a more active stance, feel more confident and trust the state," the President said.
Dalia Grybauskaitė expressed her wish that the State Day should continue to unite the people of Lithuania, inspire for dignified goals and bring them together to work for Lithuania.
Among the distinguished persons awarded state orders and medals are President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and active supporter of Lithuania's transatlantic integration Karl Alfred Lamers, signatory of the Act of Reestablishment of Lithuanian Independence Liudvikas Sabutis, choreographer Andželika Cholina, opera stage director Dalia Ibelhauptaitė, pianist Rokas Zubovas, chess player Viktorija Čmilytė, fashion and theater costume designer Juozas Statkevičius, famous Lithuanian basketball players, participants of the resistance movement, promoters of inter-state relations, Lithuanian servicemen, police officers, experts in cultural heritage, artists, medical doctors, educators, members of the Lithuanian émigré community.
