Presidential Palace opens its doors to elderly people

Sunday, October 18, Vilnius - A music and self-education event for the elderly was held at the Column Hall in the Presidential Palace.

Among the performers were young talents from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater: the Chamber Music String Quartet led by Professor Audronė Vainiūnaitė, Raimondas Sviackevičius' accordion class students and St. Johns' Church Gospel Choir "Sounds in G" (conductor and artistic leader Kristina Žaldokaitė). The students of the Music Academy and the Vilnius Conservatoire performed music of different styles and periods, ranging from early 19th century to the end of 20th century.

Before and after the concert, elderly citizens were introduced to the options offered by self-education, volunteer work and communication groups. Members of the Third Age University from Marijampolė College and participants of the "Libraries for Progress" project shared their experiences and insights. St. Cross House in Vilnius presented its assistance and volunteer activities. The Grundtvig participants shared their observations about volunteer opportunities offered by the adult education programme.
