President Dalia Grybauskaitė is attending a meeting of the presidents of the Baltic States, the Visegrad Group countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary), Bulgaria, and Romania to discuss the security situation in the region, the further escalation of conflict in Eastern Ukraine as well as preparations for the NATO summit scheduled for early September in Wales.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė is in Brussels for a special meeting of the European Council where EU leaders addressed the situation in Ukraine and in the Middles East. The European Council condemned the ongoing military confrontation in Eastern Ukraine. In light of the fact that Russia had not taken the four steps set out in its 27 June conclusions, the European Council expanded the restrictive measures.

The European Union signed Association Agreements with Georgia and Moldova and the Free Trade Agreement, which is an integral part of the Association Agreement, with Ukraine. The signature process with respect to the political provisions of the agreement was completed by the EU and Ukraine in March.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended a memorial ceremony at Ypres to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. It was in Ypres, located at the center of WWI battlefields, that a chemical weapon - mustard gas - was used for the first time, causing the death of millions of people.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė is attending a high level meeting of the heads of state of EU and Eastern Partnership countries to mark the 5th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership programme. At the meeting, the leaders reviewed the achievements of the first five years of implementing this programme and discussed how to update it in view of the newly emerging challenges in the EP countries and the entire region.
