The leaders of the EU member states, attending an informal meeting of members of the European Council in the capital of Belgium, approved the Fiscal Compact Treaty designed to obligate the eurozone members to observe stringent fiscal discipline and pursue a responsible economic policy. All of the EU member states, except United Kingdom and Czech Republic, agreed to join the treaty.

In Kiev, she met with President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov of Ukraine, attended the fifth session of the Council of Presidents of the Republic of Lithuania and Ukraine, welcomed the participants of the business forum of both countries, and participated in the exhibition - fair of Lithuanian products.

2011-10-30 Working visit by Dalia Grybauskaitė to the Republic of Finland, 29 October 2011

President Dalia Grybauskaitė during her working visit in Helsinki met with the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, to discuss Nordic-Baltic cooperation issues. This year Finland coordinates the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation with Lithuania taking over these duties next year.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the informal European Council meeting to discuss a comprehensive set of measures for controlling the euro zone debt crisis. The euro zone countries submitted to the European Council concrete measures how to consolidate – using the EU’s available instruments to a maximum extent – public finances and stabilize the banking sector.

The heads of state or government of the European Union countries, gathered in the capital of Belgium, discussed the EU economy revival and finance stabilization measures and debated how to solve the issues relevant for the euro zone. According to the President, the European Union has all the necessary measures to cope with the existing economic hardships – the member states should only find the political will to implement such measures.

2011-10-09 Official visit by President Dalia Grybauskaitė to the Republic of Kazakhstan, 7-8 October 2011

President Dalia Grybauskaitė left for the first official visit to Kazakhstan where she met with President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Prime Minister Karim Massimov and the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Ural Mukhamedzhanov, and opened the Lithuanian-Kazakh Business Forum where a bilateral business council was established. The President also unveiled a commemorative stone at ALZHIR (Akmolinsk camp for traitors’ wives in the Gulag system), the place where Lithuanian women had been exiled, and met with the Lithuanian community in Kazakhstan.
