All of the EU member states, except United Kingdom and Czech Republic, agreed to join the treaty. Early Friday morning, the heads of state or government of EU Member States in the capital of Belgium agreed on stringent financial discipline and saving measures needed to overcome the debt crisis in the eurozone. President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the meeting of Presidents of the Baltic States in Estonia. Discussing the goals and new challenges of the Baltic States the Presidents underlined that energy security and the ending of energy isolation of the region was currently a key priority for Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. President Dalia Grybauskaitė went on a working visit to Ukraine. In Kiev, she met with President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov of Ukraine, attended the fifth session of the Council of Presidents of the Republic of Lithuania and Ukraine, welcomed the participants of the business forum of both countries, and participated in the exhibition - fair of Lithuanian products. President Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in the festive events dedicated to Poland's Independence Day, on the invitation of President Bronisław Komorowski of Poland, and extended congratulations to all Polish people on their National Day. According to the President, the Polish people have already achieved very much in creating the wellbeing of their state: “Your country is an honored and trusted partner in the European Union and NATO and this is the result of hard and continuous work which will further contribute to strengthening Poland. President Dalia Grybauskaitė during her working visit in Helsinki met with the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, to discuss Nordic-Baltic cooperation issues. This year Finland coordinates the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation with Lithuania taking over these duties next year. President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the informal European Council meeting to discuss a comprehensive set of measures for controlling the euro zone debt crisis. The euro zone countries submitted to the European Council concrete measures how to consolidate – using the EU’s available instruments to a maximum extent – public finances and stabilize the banking sector. The heads of state or government of the European Union countries, gathered in the capital of Belgium, discussed the EU economy revival and finance stabilization measures and debated how to solve the issues relevant for the euro zone. President Dalia Grybauskaitė left for the first official visit to Kazakhstan where she met with President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Prime Minister Karim Massimov and the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Ural Mukhamedzhanov, and opened the Lithuanian-Kazakh Business Forum where a bilateral business council was established. The President also unveiled a commemorative stone at ALZHIR (Akmolinsk camp for traitors’ wives in the Gulag system), the place where Lithuanian women had been exiled, and met with the Lithuanian community in Kazakhstan. |
