Remarks by H.E. Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, at the State Awards Ceremony
Dear Participants and Guests of the State Awards Ceremony,
Today, on Statehood Day, we see history and modern times merge together. Centuries ago on July 6, Lithuania was crowned and elevated to freedom. The nation that King Mindaugas started to unify came together through the efforts of many generations on the path leading to this day.
The journey was long and difficult. It was full of challenges and losses, victories and defeats, painful memories and high expectations. The nation matured and grew strong. We created a modern state - an expression of our own identity and heritage.
On this day of great importance to us, we honor prominent Lithuanian and foreign nationals who have made a significant contribution to our country. Your work strengthens Lithuanian statehood and international standing. You promote Lithuania as a creative and talented nation around the world. Your actions and dedication encourage all citizens to take on a more active stance, feel more confident and trust the state.
Dear people of Lithuania, I extend my cordial greetings to you all on State Day and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your contribution to consolidating Lithuanian statehood. As I present you with state decorations, I wish that they encourage you towards new accomplishments and ambitious initiatives.
May this day continue to unite us and inspire us for dignified goals. May it bring us together to work for Lithuania.
Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania
