Condolences

On behalf of the Lithuanian people and on my own behalf, I extend our sincere condolences over the death of President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. In Lithuania, we will remember President Scalfaro not only as a supporter of a strong, united Italy, but also as a devoted friend of Lithuania and a staunch advocate of our country’s membership in the European Union and NATO.
 
I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Mr. Kiro Gligorov, the first President of the Republic of Macedonia. We will remember President Gligorov as a great statesman who brought your country to independence and who did everything he could to keep Macedonia and its people out of the wars that engulfed the former Yugoslavia.
 
Please accept my personal sympathy and the condolences of the Lithuanian people over the devastating consequences caused by Tropical Storm Washi which resulted in the loss of hundreds of innocent lives and left thousands of people homeless.
 
With Vaclav Havel, we have lost a great figure of historic dimensions – a dissident, playwright, President, and hero who contributed to the fall of communism not only in the Czech Republic, but also in the whole of Europe.
 
On behalf of the people of Lithuania and myself, I offer our deepest condolences over the devastating earthquake that struck your country. In this hour of immense grief, I wish you, the victims' families and the people of Turkey fortitude, determination and togetherness.
 
I was profoundly shocked to hear about the terror attacks in Norway that claimed the lives of many people. On behalf of the Lithuanian people and on my own behalf, I extend sincere condolences to you, to the victims’ families and friends, and to the people of Norway. In this hour of immense pain and grief to Norway, I wish strength and fortitude to all.
 
The people of Lithuania and I were deeply distressed to hear about the tragic accident on the River Volga that happened on July 10 when the boat Bulgaria sank with many passengers on board. On behalf of all Lithuania, I extend my sincere condolences to you personally and to the victims’ families and friends. In this hour of pain and grief, I wish you strength and fortitude.
 
I was profoundly distressed to hear about the severe storms that had swept across vast areas of the United States of America, resulting in the death of many dozens of people and causing huge material damage. On behalf of the people of Lithuania and myself, I would like to extend my deep condolences to you, Mr. President, to the victims’ families and friends, and to the American people. I wish you fortitude and strength in overcoming the consequences of the tornado disaster.
 
On behalf of the people of Lithuania and myself, I extend sincere condolences to those who have suffered in the Minsk metro blast, to their families and friends. In this moment of pain and grief, I wish the people of Belarus strength and fortitude. Once again, please accept my sympathy and the assurances of my highest consideration.
 
On behalf of the people of Lithuania and myself, I offer our deepest condolences and support in the face of the massive natural disaster that devastated your country. The earthquake and tsunami took hundreds of lives. In this hour of immense grief, I wish your country fortitude. I wish you, the victims’ families and the people of Japan unity and togetherness.
